Continued Support for Kids returning to School
Foundation Broken Hill, has for the 14th consecutive year secured funding for the Back to School Voucher Program from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR). This year a total of 444 Target vouchers has been secured by the Foundation.
This nation-wide program provides $50 vouchers for financially disadvantaged school students to assist with the purchase of items such as uniforms, school bags, shoes, stationery or other items needed to ensure children feel they ‘fit in’ at school.
Foundation Manager, Kimberley Fell stated “The vouchers are expected in the office just after school starts back in February and while $50 per child seems a minor amount, families with several children find the program has significant impact and their appreciation is evident” Mrs Fell said.
As in the past few years, Foundation Broken Hill will be distributing the bulk of the vouchers from their office at 242 Blende Street but will also partner with local indigenous organisation Maari Ma and the local schools to identify those families who will benefit the most from the vouchers.
Maari Ma, for the 2nd year, has come on board with Foundation Broken Hill by contributing $1,000 to the Matched Funding Program, ensuring that dollar for dollar an additional $2,000 worth of vouchers will be received. These 40 vouchers will be distributed by Maari Ma and those eligible should contact their office to secure vouchers.
It should be remembered that this is not a Government funded program, private funds are sourced to enable it to run. “FRRR and their program partners are the most significant reason this program is still accessible for our Community and I am extremely grateful that we have been able to access the vouchers again this year,” Foundation Manager Kimberley Fell said.
In total Foundation Broken Hill has distributed over $250,000 worth of vouchers to the community since the inception of the program in 2005.
There are many reasons a family may be eligible for the vouchers and enquiries on eligibility can be made through the Foundation on 08 8087 9985 or come into the office Monday-Thursday 9am-4pm (located at 242 Blende St – Old TAB Building) to find out more.
